Last night, just before 8:30 p.m., an 11-year-old girl walking with her mother in Bedford-Stuyvesant was shot in the neck. The girl was caught in crossfire when one man fired at two men at 590 Gates Avenue. Police do not believe she was a target.

According to the NYPD, the suspect was walking down Throop Avenue and hit the girl, who had been in front of 600 Gates Avenue. She was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she underwent surgery.

Police recovered surveillance footage and cops on the 79 Precinct Anti-Crime team recognized the suspect, Kane Cooper. They canvassed the area and found him at Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Madison Street. The Post says the 17-year-old was targeting a Bloods member.

Cooper was charged with attempted murder, assault, criminial use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
