Jon Lieber looked good for his second straight start last night, pitching 7 2/3 innings against the Angels and giving up two runs in the 4-2 (box score) Yankee victory. Lieber is 3-1 since his return from the DL for some groin troubles. Jason Giambi and Alex Rodriguez helped the Lieber's cause, both had two extra base hits, with one of Giambi's coming in the form of a two-run homer. With 11 Yankee walks, there were plenty of missed opportunities including a bases loaded situation in the 2nd inning that ended in a Miguel Cairo strikeout.
Derek Jeter continues to struggle at the plate. He is hitless in his last 17 at bats and 1-26.Gothamist knows that it's unlikely, but you've got to wonder - can Jeter continue to hit below the Mendoza Line? Jeter feels that he's getting close though, "I thought today was the best all around day I've had in a long time." Gothamist thinks the real question is if Yankee fans will boo him when they return from the road trip. If they do, it probably won't be too bad, but maybe it could serve as a wake-up call.
Kristen was at Tuesday's 1-0 extra inning loss, making several classic observations, "Jorge Posada's dumper is HUGE. Yes, it's all muscle, but it is seriously the biggest ass we've ever seen."
