bYIkqCm5.jpg Recently, Roger Clemens, recovering Red Sock and pitcher for the only sports team that really matters, has been trying to join that exclusive club of pitchers who have won 300 games. He tried on Memorial Day against Boston and again against Detroit but still hasn't made it.

Another recent game got me thinking about how these things are decided. Mussina pitched 8.0 good innings and Mariano Rivera pitched one crappy one, giving up two runs, and yet the game ended in the odd decision werein Mariano blew the save but got the win.

This site gives an explaination of the official rules, which seem a bit counterintuitive. Being no great baseball scholar myself, I don't know how one might improve on this. Any ideas?
