2006_01_sstjohnslouis.jpgAfter stumbling through the non-conference season, St. John's finally picked up a victory it can be proud of when the Red Storm defeated Louisville at the Garden Tuesday night. Louisville may have been worn out from battling a tough Pitt team this past weekend, but St. John's still deserves plenty of credit for taking down the 17th-ranked team in the country. The Red Storm still figure to struggle in Big East play this year, but they didn't struggle Tuesday night.

Anyone watching the second half wouldn't have thought St. John's could lose to Hofstra and Marist at home, like they did earlier this year. Even with a 1-13 shooting performance from Daryl Hill, the Red Storm still managed four other players to score in double figures, led by Eugene Lawrence's 18 points. Agaisnt a team that went to the Final Four last year that's impressive. Gothamist still wants to see more though, but we don't expect it when the Red Storm faces Pitt at home, Connecticut on the road and then West Virginia at home. They'll be fortunate to get one of those three games.
