2005_12_10_soupkitchen.jpgOh, MUG, you remind us of a good point. We're smack in the middle of the holiday season. A time for diners and delis to play constant Christmas jingles (if we never hear about a reindeer again it will be too soon), a time to feel guilty about not being able to get friends/family the Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice gift you know they would want (or worse, not having the slightest idea what they'd want). But that's just the tip of the iceberg. It is also as good a time as any to do some good for your community.

If you're loaded and just want to drop some cash to get rid of your seasonal guilt, we've always been a fan of the Times' Neediest Cases (which reminds us, why is there no link to the cases on the Times homepage? Does that strike anyone else as bizarre?). But if you're looking to do some good with your time as well, volunteering is the way to go.

Which brings us back to MUG. Yesterday they put up a nice list of places you can volunteer. The list is purposely short of a lot of options (don't see something on their list you want people to know about? Put it in the comments!), but it offers a good selection of interesting and praiseworthy places to which you can devote some of your time. We're talking everything from the ASPCA to Playwrights Horizons to God's Love We Deliver. Not to mention the volunteer umbrella orgs listed like VolunteerNYC.org.
