The City has launched an effort to get New Yorkers volunteering with the Mayor's Volunteer Center. The website is a resource for New Yorkers to find out about different volunteering opportunities in different locations and with different focuses (focii?). It's also a great way to meet people. And if you can't volunteer once a week, why not once a month or every other month? Heck, even twice a year would be good.
What better way to get involved with volunteering than participating in NY Cares Day this Saturday, October 23. NY Cares has been sending volunteers to help tutor kids, organize libraries, teach seniors how to use computers, and on NY Cares Day, over 8,000 people will be helping out at city schools and raising money for them.
