When you date, unless you're lucky or foolish enough to spend your life with the first person you go out with, you will end up with exes. If you, like most of us here at Gothamist, date within your group of friends or industry or neighborhood, then you face the embarrassing likelihood of having to see or, even worse, contact them again. And again.

And as you date more people, you wind up with more connections to random people who are friends of exes. Eventually it becomes more likely than not that one of these will turn up trying to talk to you in a bar, across the table from you on a speed date, or messaging you on your internet dating service.
