Team USA fought off an early 10 point deficit to take down Australia 89 - 79 yesterday in Men's Olympic basketball action. The vitcory pushed the American's record to 2 - 1 in round robin play. The US got big games from Allen Iverson (16 points in 23 minutes)and Tim Duncan and actually played some team defense for what seems like the first time in Athens. Duncan notched game highs with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 7 of 11 from the floor and 4 of 6 from the charity stripe.

As giddy as this W makes Gothamist feel, perhaps the most exciting development from the game is Larry Brown actually heeding Gothamist's cries for more PT for LeBron James. The precocious 19 year old keyed a late US run by scoring 7 straight points and helped seal the win with his deft passing and help D. Shawn Marion came out of nowhere with a monster game of 16 points and 8 boards and Stephon Marbury even showed signs of a pulse with 5 assists.

Sadly, it seems that Carmelo Anthony isn't buying into the team concept, which explains his lack of PT. Don't expect him to see much time on the court for the rest of the games.

The US now heads into their big matchup with Lithuania on Saturday with some momentum, which must make them feel good. Angola awaits on Monday and then the medal round starts up on Thursday. "No one's gonna hand us our medal," Duncan said. "We're going to have to earn it."
