And how! Not only did the Mets finally end their 11 game losing streak, they also shutout the defending World Champions, 4-0 (box score). The Mets also ended their streak of innings without a lead in the 2nd inning. The win obviously does nothing for the playoff hopes of the Mets who have an elimination number of four games, which is the combination of wins by the first place team (Atlanta) and losses by the Mets. We're thinking the Mets will be eliminated from the NL East by the end of the weekend. If you're thinking wild card, the Mets are more than 15 games out of that.

The runs for the Mets came from Eric Valent, David Wright, Mike Cameron, and Jason Phillips. The shutout by the Mets was courtesy of Kris Benson, who pitched six strong innings, Bartolome Fortunato, and Braden Looper. Guess Benson's shoulder is now well rested.

The Mets win also halted a winning streak by the Marlins, who had won nine straight. This weekend, the Mets return home to Shea to face the Phillies for three games before taking on the division leading Braves on Monday.
