The Yankees acquired Mike Myers to get out lefty batters. He has made a career of doing that and through twenty-three games had not allowed a run this season. Unfortunately, he had not faced the best lefty in the American League and when he did, David Ortiz hit a three-run homer to propel Boston to a 7-3 victory.
The game started with Johnny Damon receiving a rude reception from the Fenway faithful. Damon seemed confused by all the boos because he stopped and tipped his cap. Maybe he really is an idiot. The fans weren’t done with him as they threw what looked like real money at him when he ran out to centerfield in the bottom of the first.
Things won’t get any easier tonight for New York when they face Josh Beckett. Beckett last faced the Yankees in the 2003 World Series, shutting them down and giving the Marlins the championship. Shawn Chacon will take the ball for New York.
