2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpgStick a camera in his face and Randy Johnson is the toughest guy on the planet, but if you put him in front of hitters he turns into mush. Johnson was pathetic last night, not only giving up hits, but also walking five batters. Sixteen million dollars sure doesn’t go as far as it used to.

Despite his putrid pitching, Johnson could have escaped a lot of damage if his defense had performed better. A Rod made a key error on a ground ball and Melky Cabrera couldn’t handle a tough pop up which led to five Red Sox runs. Things got so bad that Bernie Williams was ejected for the first time in his career after throwing his helmet in disgust.

While this is a bad loss, it’s important to remember that the Yankees lost to Boston 17-1 two times last year, but still won the season series. They will rebound from this, but the bigger question is, will Randy?
