If you didn’t watch it, you were lucky, 22 penalties and 12 punts do not make for exciting football, but the Giants did what they had to do and beat the 49rs 24-6 on Sunday. The Giants offense, which was inconsistent all day, finally clicked into gear scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Brandon Jacobs had two one-yard touchdown runs setup by long passes to Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress who made a fantastic one-handed grab.

It looked as if the 49rs defense might be able to steal this game for their offense. The Giants scored just before the end of the second half on a great catch by Jeremy Shockey to take a 10-0 lead, but were shutdown in the third quarter while the 49rs added two field goals to cut the Giants lead to four. That’s when the Giants took control, holding the ball for ten of the final fifteen minutes while scoring twice.

With the win, the Giants improve to 6-2 and now hold a one-game lead over Dallas and Washington. Minnesota comes to the Meadowlands next Sunday.
