Liebman's DeliThe list of closed NYC delis is too long to list, but with icons like the Stage Deli gone, it's hard to find an authentic old school Jewish deli. Yes, you can eat with the tourists at Katz's, but if you want a real deli experience, the kind where everyone talks so loud that you can't help eavesdropping on other tables, and where you get free coleslaw and pickles without asking, head to Riverdale for a meal at Liebman's Deli. The Bronx was once home to several Jewish delis, and almost all have closed but three, which are all within a few block walk in Riverdale. You can tour the local deli scene, or you can order a pastrami sandwich, a knish and a side of kasha at Liebman's. Don't forget to wash it down with a can of Dr. Brown's.
