2006_04_spedrobraves.jpgThere was a crowd on hand last night as the Mets faced their NL East nemises Atlanta Braves. It was possibly the biggest Mets crowd Gothamist has seen in April except for opening day. A cool 36,867 were on hand to witness Pedro Martinez's 200th career victory, becoming the 103rd pitcher to reach that mark. After the 4-3 victory, there was a little video on "Diamond Vision" that showed some clips of Pedro's performances. There wasn't any mention of the 2003 ALCS though.

The win by the Mets is a very small step towards ending the Braves domination of the division, but the true test will obviously come in Atlanta - the Mets were 6-13 against the Braves last year. Martinez wasn't dominating in his appearance last night, allowing six hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings, but he got the job done with eight strikeouts. It didn't hurt that the Mets had some timely hitting including home runs by Xavier Nady and Carlos Delgado. Duaner Sanchez (affectionately called Dirty by some in the crowd) and Billy Wagner closed out the game.

It seems like the Mets have a new theme song titled, "Our Team. Our Time." The song made its debut before last night's game and was penned (unsolicited by the Mets) by Thomas Scandaliato and Steven Brown and has a hip-hop beat. It should be noted for theme song purists that "Our Team. Our Time." does not replace "Meet the Mets." Amen to that because "Meet the Mets" is classic and if that was replaced, Gothamist might have to renounce our Mets fandom. And it seems like April is the month for sports theme songs as the Nets recently announced their own song.

Lyrics for the song are in the extended entry and you can listen to the song here. Be warned, while it's pretty bad, the lyrical repetition can get it stuck in your head.

New York Mets, Our Team. Our Time.
New York Mets, Our Team. Our Time.
Our Team, Our Time.
We get the hits (hits)
We get the runs (runs)
We shut you down (down)
We're number 1 (one, one, one)
New York Mets, Our Team. Our Time.
New York Mets, Our Team. Our Time.
New York Mets, Our Team. Our Time.
New York Mets, Our Team. Our Time.
Our Team. Our Time.
Pedro Martinez will strike you out.
Billy Wagner coming through, he's throwing heat no doubt
David Wright, Jose Reyes making sure you're not safe
Just in case Carlos Delgado, he's at first base
Cliff Floyd, Carlos Beltran playing the outfield come to Shea Stadium
Our team's the real deal
New York Mets, Our Team. Our Time.
New York Mets, Our Team. Our Time.
Our Team. Our Time.

Gothamist will have to stick with "Meet the Mets."
