If getting in shape is one of your New Year’s resolutions, there is a fitness program which instead of asking you to pick one gym location, hands you free passes for what seems like just about every fitness club in NYC, for a $75 fee.
The Fitness Access and Yoga PassBooks, subsidized by the American Health and Fitness Alliance, were developed to encourage people to exercise. The program operates in NYC, Chicago, and LA. While you might just get your workout traveling from gym to gym, the options certainly seem boundless.
Fitness Access PassBooks give you 700 free admission passes to over 175 health and fitness clubs not only in Manhattan, but in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, and elsewhere. Each pass is good for a minimum of two free visits per club where you can choose from aerobics, basketball, dance, pilates, racquetball, kick boxing, diving, rock climbing, spinning, swimming, or weight training. We are getting a workout from just listing all of the options. And, if you decide to join any club in the program by the end of the year, for a one year membership at the regular rate, you will get your $75 back from Fitness Access.
The Yoga PassBooks have 325 passes for free admission to over 120 Yoga, Dance, and Pilates studios in New York. Again, each pass is good for a minimum of two visits.
Alas, if you have your heart set on picking only one gym, City Search has a list of fitness clubs voted as the Best in 2006. Number One was Clay at 25 West 14th Street.
