The hapless Mets are setting breaking their own records with they way they have played recently. During their 11 game stint, they managed to lose 10 and win only 1 measly game against the Dodgers last Friday. 1-10, a winning percentage of .091. Quite the winning percentage, no? In fact, the number is so low that they set a Mets record for the lowest winning percentage for a homestand of at least 10 games. Awesome! If that's not bad enough, the Mets are closer to last than to 3rd. Good to know, considering last place is where the Mets seem destined to finish. If they do finish last, it would be the 3rd time in 3 years that they end the season in the NL East cellar.
Not everything went poorly for the Mets in yesterday's 9-6 loss (box score). David Wright, had his best night since being called up to the bigs. Wright, hitting .299, went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI, 1 stolen base, and 2 home runs. Wright is a one man scoring machine. Unfortunately, the pitching for the Mets is still lousy. With Jae Seo filling in, the Mets didn't look very good at all. Seo gave up 4 earned runs in 5 innings of work, taking the Mets out of the game before they were even in it.
This weekend, the Mets are off to Philadelphia for a three game series. If they are lucky, the Mets might be two games behind the Phillies in the "race" for 3rd place. If not, they will be only a game out of last place. A place that seems to fit so well for the Mets.
