>Hope that they don't get swept. With three of the four games against the Padres, the Mets have managed to lose three in a row, but thy can prevent a sweep this afternoon as they play one more game against the suddenly hot Padres. Memo to teams in the hunt for the playoffs - if you're playing the Mets, you have a good chance of picking up a few games. The Mets have now lost 4 games in a row and only 5.5 games out of last, the Expos nipping at their heels. How ironic that a team the Mets partially own might finish ahead of them again.

Monday's game featured a virtual explosion in offense from the Mets, as they scored 4 runs, but still went on to lose 9-4. Tuesday, they were stymied by the pitching of David Wells, scratching out one run in the 9th inning of a 3-1 loss. Last night, they were shut out 4-0 (box score) by Brian Lawrence, who had a complete game. Newsday reports that the Mets only had one runner in scoring position after the 3rd inning. Now that's anemic.

When the Padres blow town, the Dodgers will be visiting for a three game series that will surely help the Dodgers in their quest to widen their lead in the NL West.
