It's hard to believe we haven't featured the New York Restroom map here before-- but after ten minutes of searching the archives, it seems like we haven't. So here it is: an ongoing effort to map clean, public restrooms throughout Manhattan-- they've currently got 237. Sad, but related: someone was struck by a train while pooing on the tracks at the Greenpoint Avenue G station yesterday. Mini-editorial: the MTA really needs to reopen the bathrooms throughout the subway system-- surely there is some way to make them available and keep them clean. In Europe, the bathrooms in the metro systems are operated as concessions, just like the newsstands. You pay $1 or so to use the facilities, and the person who runs the bathroom keeps them clean.
