  • Boston 1 Rangers 0 (shootout): It was reasonable to expect that the Rangers would take some time to blend in their new acquisitions, but this is getting ugly. After seven games, New York has stumbled to a 2-5 record and looked lifeless in doing so. The offense, which was supposed to be the strength of this club, has struggled, being shutout twice and scoring only one goal twice.

Saturday the Rangers couldn’t score again, despite 26 shots. Manny Fernandez played very well for the Bruins and when things went to a shootout, Shanahan, Drury and Jagr all failed to convert, but Phil Kessel didn’t. His wrist shot won the game and New York heads to Pittsburgh with a lot of questions, including one about the health of Martin Straka.

  • Islanders 4 Devils 3 (OT): New York blew a two-goal lead in the third period, but won the game on a power-play goal from Bill Guerin with 4 seconds left in overtime.
  • Houston Leaves The Knicks: Allan Houston has decided to stop his comeback with the Knicks. Houston did not officially retire, so there is a chance he will show up with another team at some point this season.
