  • Yankees 13 Pirates 6: It’s official, the Yankees are on fire. Sunday they completed their sweep of the Pirates, bludgeoning them behind two home runs from Alex Rodriguez and a 4-4 day from Bobby Abreu. The win was their sixth in a row and leaves them one game below .500 and 9 ½ back in the division.

From the outset, the bats were cooking, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but the pitching couldn’t hold the Pirates back. The Yankees saw their 3-0 lead become 3-2 and their 5-2 lead become a 6-5 deficit before they scored the last eight runs of the game. They will now enjoy a day off before Arizona comes to town, without Randy Johnson.

  • Detroit 15 Mets 7: The Mets actually led in this game, thanks to David Wright’s three-run homer, but Detroit destroyed Tom Glavine, Aaron Sele and Joe Smith, pounding out 21 hits in the process. New York has dropped six of seven and will look to rebound tomorrow against the Dodgers.
  • D.C. 4 Red Bulls 2: Ben Olsen had a hat-trick, not an easy thing in soccer, as D.C. dominated the Red Bulls.
