  • Celtics 96, Nets 88 (OT): The Knicks do not have a local monopoly on losing to the Celtics. This loss was probably worse than New York's earlier this week. The Nets blew an 11-point lead with less than four minutes to play, allowing Boston to score on 10 of its last 11 possessions. By letting Boston star Paul Pierce take over, the Nets ruined their chances.

  • Knicks 104, Hawks 100 (OT): One night after impressing at home, the Knicks made the not-so-enjoyable trip to Atlanta and managed to squeak one out there also. For once, one of their manic comebacks paid off -- they trailed by 15 late in the third quarter -- and Stephon Marbury helped the Knicks by bagging 11 in overtime.

  • Rangers 3, Blues 2 (SO):Even with Henrik Lundqvist on the bench, the Rangers escaped with a win on home ice. Stephen Valiquette made 25 saves and then made a critical stop in the shootout. Coach Tom Renney even considered putting Lundqvist in for the shootout, but his reliance on the journeyman backup paid up.

  • Islanders 6, Capitals 2: Ryan Smyth scored on the power play in his Islanders debut, as his new team warmed up for two critical games against the Rangers this week with a convincing win. Unlike their rivals, the Islanders did not rest the starting goalkeeper. Rick DiPietro has now started 14 straight games.
