- Nets 113, Wizards 101: That post title refers to the "Big Three" of Jason Kidd (26 points, nine assists, eight rebounds), Vince Carter (27, 3 and 6) and Bostjan Nachbar (23, 6 and 2). It could also talk about the 16 3-pointers pointers -- a franchise record -- the Nets hit in a win at home over the Wizards. Before everyone goes crazy about New Jersey beating the team with the second-best record in the conference, remember that Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison were out with injuries. No one in the home dressing room is complaining though.
- Rangers 4, Canadiens 0: On a day where they made not one but twotrades , the Rangers handed it to the Canadiens. The jury is still out on the deals, of course, but the Rangers broke character and acquired a younger player from the Thrashers in Alex Bourret. The deal with Boston that sent Aaron Ward for Paul Mara gets rid of a player who apparently didn't get along with Jaromir Jagr. Mara is minus 22 though, so not everything looks rosy. The game, by the way, saw Henrik Lundqvist make 19 saves for his third shutout.
- Islanders 6, Flyers 5 (OT): A thrilling game after a thrilling deal pulled off by the Islanders. Jason Blake stayed put and scored a hat trick. The Islanders also sent two prospects and a draft pick for Ryan Smyth, an All-Star and a important cog in the Oilers machine. That's a win-now, worry-about-the-future-later move.
- Devils 1, Penguins 0: Martin Brodeur made good use of his day off and recorded a shutout -- his 12th this season -- on a day where the Devils decided to stay put at the trading deadline. With their talent, who would feel the need to make a move?
