• Rangers 2 Washington 1: Henrik Lundqvist was simply brilliant Wednesday night. It wasn’t just the fact that he made 38 saves, it was the quality of those saves, many of them coming off of pointblank chances. It was a strange game because the Rangers took a 2-0 lead early in the second period, but never seemed to be ahead as the game progressed. Most of the play was in their end and they took several stupid penalties, including one atrocious one by Sean Avery late in the third period. But Lundqvist bailed them out and they are now up 3-1 in the series with a chance to clinch things on Friday.

  • Yankees 9 Oakland 7 (14 innings): The ball continues to fly out of the new stadium and that is a good thing for the Yankees. Melky Cabrera hit a two-run homer to win it and New York overcame several missed chances and another bad start by Sabathia.

  • St. Louis 5 Mets 2: John Maine was wild and it cost New York as they fell to 6-8 on the year.
