2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpg-Yankees 5 Braves 2: As the Yankees continue to lose position players to injury, their pitching becomes more and more important. Monday night, Randy Johnson stepped up and delivered seven shutout innings and Jason Giambi hit two home runs to power the Yankees’ lineup.

The Yankees were without Robinson Cano who may be placed on the DL later this week. Cano hurt his hamstring running out a double Sunday night and losing him would mean two weeks of Miguel Cairo and his .600 OPS in the lineup.

Johnson has now gone 3-2 over his last five starts with a 3.10 ERA. Is it the warmer weather, a return to form, or just an anomaly that explains his recent success? It’s impossible to say, but New York will hope he can keep it up for his next start against the Mets this weekend and beyond.
