The Giants took advantage of six Saints turnovers to win 27-10 Monday night. New Orleans started the game off by trying a reverse on a kickoff return and fumbling the ball on their own ten-yard line. Three plays later, Brandon Jacobs pounded the ball into the end zone and the Giants had a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Eli Manning completed 13 of 24 passes for 165 yards, connecting with Tiki Barber on a six-yard touchdown pass. Barber also ran for a twelve-yard TD and rushed for a total of 83 yards. Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress led the Giants with five catches each for 64 yards.
While this game was billed as a road game for the Giants, it certainly didn’t seem like one. Apart from one of the end zones that was painted with the Saints’ colors and a few fans wearing Mardi Gras beads, the crowd was mostly for the Giants. Regardless of the location, the Saints and Giants helped raise a lot of money for the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Next week, the Giants have a real road game as the travel to San Diego to face the Chargers on Sunday night.
