The Giants enter 2007 with more questions than answers. The biggest one is how are they going to replace the 2,100 yards of offense generated by Tiki Barber last season? They don’t get any easier after that though. Will Michael Strahan play well after missing all of training camp? Can David Diehl play left tackle? Is Eli ready to take the next step? Is the secondary any better? Has Tom Coughlin really changed?
Add it all up and you have the makings of a tough year. The offense will have to develop a running game out of Brandon Jacobs and Ruben Droughns while hoping that Eli Manning finally justifies his selection as the first pick in the draft. On defense the Giants should be able to blitz effectively, but their pass defense looks suspect. Don’t expect a playoff spot again this season and a repeat of 2006’s 8-8 record would have to be considered a success.
And, to start it off the Giants have to face Dallas in Dallas on Sunday night. Tony Romo will be looking for redemption after fumbling away a playoff win last season and the Dallas defense looks very tough. Terrell Owens will give the Giants fits and should be a matchup problem all night. Gothamist thinks Dallas gets a fairly easy win.
