You can spend an entire race running through the streets of NYC while taking selfies with hot guys, but if you'd like to spot some nature as you hit the pavement, consider signing up for one of these picturesque races outside the city. From Jersey beaches to rolling hills in the country, these races, ranging from 5K to marathons, are a lot more fun than running another loop of Central Park. An added plus, you can have a cool background for your obligatory post-race Facebook and Instagram photo.

Jersey Shore Half Marathon
Although it's the Jersey Shore Half Marathon, you won't be running past concession stands and mini golf on the Wildwood boardwalk. On Sunday October 5th, you can run by the Sandy Hook Lighthouse and New York Harbor at this shorefront race across the water from NYC. Those who want views and a more leisurely run should register for the 5K, which starts a few minutes after the half marathon.

Fall Foliage Half
On Sunday October 12th run through the charming and picturesque town of Rhinebeck and Rhinecliff with views of the Hudson River. Rhinebeck and the surrounding area is the ideal setting for a scenic country race. If you don’t want to commit to a half marathon, sign up for the 5K. No matter what race you choose, after burning some calories, enjoy a post-celebratory race meal at Terrapin.

Fall Harvest Race
After a one-mile stretch uphill, runners are rewarded with panoramic views of the Hudson Valley including the Newburgh Beacon Bridge during this 7.5 mile scenic race through Cornwall-on-Hudson on Sunday November 9th. If you want the views without breaking a serious sweat, sign up for the 5K race/walk.

Newport Marathon

Newport Marathon and Half Marathon
The weekend of October 11-12th, folks can run a marathon, half marathon or a 5K on Newport, Rhode Island. Starting at Easton Beach, the route takes you past the historic Bellevue Avenue mansions and along the coast. The views from this Island are fantastic and the breeze from the water will cool you off as you race toward the finish line.

Harwich Cranberry Harvest
Although the summer is when most New Yorkers usually flock to the cape, this fall enjoy the seasonal change and cranberry harvest at the Harwich Cranberry Harvest Half marathon or 7.3 fall road race on Sunday October 5th on the cape. The mostly flat course takes you past cranberry bogs and the harbor. After you’ve soaked in the views and have gotten your runner’s high, make some new friends at the post race party at The Andale Café.
