2006_12_couglin.jpgIn 2003 it was a 27-7 loss to the Falcons that started an eight-game losing streak and as the team quit down the stretch it became apparent that Jim Fassel had to be fired. With yesterday’s 30-7 loss to the Saints, their sixth loss in seven games, it has become apparent that Tom Coughlin has to be fired.

This is a team that has been plagued by injuries, but has been hurt even more by their own poor play and poor attitudes. Yesterday’s game was a microcosm of the season. Stupid penalties by veterans who have to know better, inconsistent play by Eli Manning and a defense that can’t make simple plays to get off the field.

Yes, the Giants could still make the playoffs, but that cannot be used as a reason to save Coughlin’s job. He came into New York with a reputation as a disciplinarian. This team has no discipline and the Giants have to find a coach who can get things back on track. Greg Schiano turned down the job at the University of Miami because his family wanted to stay in New Jersey, what would he say to changing jobs without changing his address?
