No 16 seed has ever beaten a number 1 in the NCAA Tournament history, and it remained that way last night as Fairleigh Dickinson lost 67-55 to the University of Illinois in opening round action. The Knights managed to give the Illini a scare, however, taking a brief lead in the first half and only trailing by one at the end of the half. The second half was a different story. Illinois outscored FDU 22-8 to start the half and never looked back.

A performance like the one last night can't be a good thing for the Illini. They were dominated by the Knights inside the paint during the first half of play. FDU outscored Illinois 20-10 and outrebounded them 21-12> By the end of the game, FDU had 42 rebounds to 30 by Illinois. Gothamist is pretty sure that everyone that has Illinois going anywhere in the tournament was sweating last night's game out.
