  • Shanghaiist covered the deadly fire that ravaged an entire apartment building in the heart of Shanghai and killed 58 residents (at last count) this week, including on the scene photos, videos and our despair at Shanghai local media's initial unwillingness to cover it themselves.
  • Gothamist was amused when a politician basically called the cops on some kids holding a bake sale.
  • Phillyist was all about the interviews this week: first Ben Folds, and then celebrity chef Michael Schulson.
  • Seattlest learned our fair city has a pack of self-appointed superheroes who dress in costume and go around the city fighting crime at night.
  • Bostonist must drink all the Four Loko before all the Four Loko is gone because the state hates the Four Loko, so Bostonist drank all the Four Loko and wrote up this and man are we thirsty for some punch now. Bostonist also hopes not to get subsequently stopped for drunk driving by BPD’s new interceptors.
  • DCist readers were surprised by the announcement that Walmart would be opening four stores inside the District by 2012, news which sparked plenty of debate; to blow off some steam, they tried their hand at naming the National Zoo's lion cubs.
  • LAist saw Los Angeles County approve a historic plastic bag ban on single use bags in supermarkets, retail pharmacies, liquor stores, and grocery marts beginning July 2011.
