Don't look now, but the Mets lost again, falling to the Florida Marlins, 5-4 (box score). The loss was the Mets' 5th in a row and extended the Marlins win streak to 6 games.
The only bright spot for the Mets was Wilson Degado, who had an impressive game offensively. Batting 8th and playing shortstop, Delgado went 3 for 4, knocking in four runs and hitting a home run in the 4th. Without Delgado, the Mets wouldn't have scored. Delgado was one of the players that the Mets acquired in the Roger Cedeno trade. Is anyone missing Kaz Matsui now?
Tom Glavine, with replacement teeth in mouth, pitched 6 innings and picked up the loss. Glavine, an All-Star and former ERA leader this season now has a 9-11 record and 3.20 ERA. As if loosing alone isn't painful enough, former Met castaway, Armando Benitez pitched a perfect 9th inning to pick up his 40th save and 10th save of the season against the Mets.
Have no fear Mets fans, your team is still in the race for the playoffs! They are a mere 12.5 games behind the Cubs for the Wild Card spot. All they have to do is pass the Pirates, Reds, Phillies, Astros, Marlins, Padres, Giants, and Cubs. It can be done, right? Okay, maybe not.
