It took four week, but the Giants’ defense finally showed up. The New York defense held Washington to only 164 net yards and most importantly, only 3-for-11 on third down conversions. The pass rush finally showed up too, getting three sacks and putting a lot of pressure on Mark Brunell in the 19-3 victory.
The defense was helped by the offense, which controlled the clock for 35 minutes and ran almost 70 plays. Eli Manning looked great, completing 23-of-33 for 256 yards with a touchdown to Plaxico Burress. Tiki Barber had 123 yards on the ground and kept the chains moving at several key moments.
The only downside of the game was the Giants inability to score touchdowns instead of field goals, something they will have to improve on since the schedule doesn’t get any easier the next two weeks. They now head on the road to Atlanta and Dallas, two teams with playoff aspirations of their own.
