Since the dawn of humanity, uptowners have battled downtowners, and east siders have fought brutally against west siders, to retain the title of champion pizza-eating neighborhood of New York. Today, the New York City Economic Development Corporation has released the statistics that can finally put this battle to rest, declaring the areas in each borough with the highest number of pizza establishments. And the winners are...

In Manhattan: the East Village (zip code 10003), which clocks in at an impressive 33 joints, including everything from fancy-pants Motorino to that sketchy dollar slice place on St. Mark's Place. In Brooklyn, Williamsburg (zip 11211) topped the list, which isn't a huge surprise; in Queens, Ridgewood (zip 11385) gets the honors; Williamsbridge (zip 10467) was the winner in the Bronx, and Oakwood/New Dorp (zip 10306) takes it in Staten Island.

One caveat: as the NYCEDC explains, "Land area and residential population play a big role in the number of pizza places in a particular zip code. On a per capita basis, East Harlem (10029) and the Lower East Side (10002) rise to the top spots, while the East Village falls to number 18." So...let the battle begin once more! [via EV Grieve]
