Watching films about food is usually bittersweet, since you're probably not skilled enough in the kitchen to replicate what you see on your screen. The annual Food Film Festival, which returns to NYC today for its 10th anniversary, gives you a chance to wine, dine, and watch your way through more than 20 food-related flicks.
The fest kicks off tonight with the Best Of A Decade, a celebration of the 12 most delectable food films of the past 10 years including What's Virgin Mean? and Ice Cream Picasso. As is the case with all of the film fest events, each screening includes food related to the movies, which appears in front of you as soon as it's shown on screen. In this case, the menu includes BBQ from Hometown BBQ, Mexican food from The Beatrice Inn, and vegan snacks from Amanda Cohen's Dirt Candy.
Saturday night's Food Porn Party features six films, a farm-fresh oyster bar by the Billion Oyster Project, sweets from Top Pot Donuts and Breads Bakery, food-burlesque performances, and more. And on Sunday night, Eat Japan takes you on a multi-sensory cultural tour with four films about mochi, ramen, and Japanese iced coffee and plenty of sweet and savory bites including tsukemen ramen and takoyaki.
This year, the fest benefits the Billion Oyster Project, which is working to replenish the waters surrounding NYC with once-plentiful oysters. Tickets range from $85 to $115 for general admission events, and they're going fast—Friday night's Edible Adventure is completely sold out, and there are no VIP tickets left for any of the events—so get them while you can.
