After quelling the kvetching from those shmendriks at the Department of Building, the long-awaited Upper East Side location of the 2nd Ave Deli will open tomorrow at 6 a.m. According to a press release sent out earlier today, Upper East Side residents "will soon have their matzo balls, pastrami and chopped liver closer to home" when the new location opens with "a traditional, ceremonial cutting of 'nickel shtickel' salami links" at 11 a.m. And then everyone will toast the new location with an Apple Latke Martini! What the hell is that!?

We're told the Apple Latke Martini is made with a potato vodka mixed with homemade apple sauce, with a twist of lemon and garnished with one of the 2nd Ave Deli’s famos potato pancakes. (You remember, they used to drink them on Sex and the City all the time.) The new deli seats about 70, with a separate takeout menu. Like the new original location on 33rd Street, specialties include gefilte fish, corned beef, pastrami, and what the deli deems "the world’s best chopped liver." And the more latke martinis you knock back, the better it gets!
