Twitter has decided to get in on Instagram's swag food porn game by starting their own Twitter food account to supply their users with a constant stream of caloric enjoyment. The @TwitterFood account hasn't done much Tweeting as of yet, but the company says it'll be about "beautiful snapshot[s] of a freshly-baked pastry, a cooking demo or even a 140-character recipe." Plus really terrible food photography from one Martha Stewart.

In fact, celebrity chef endorsements seem to be a huge part of early life for @TwitterFood, starting with some kind of Mario Batali contest this afternoon. The announcement of the #MarioBataliMysteryMeal is but one of seven Tweets from the account so far. The others include a welcome Tweet and a retweet from the Martha Stewart Living account announcing the new handle.

As Grub Street points out, Twitter has had great success with their @TwitterSports account, so it's only natural that they'd want to capture the foodie zeitgeist that's spawned a thousand hashtags. That they're trying to "whet our appetites" with this makes us question if they quite understand what food porn really means and whether this'll just be another outlet to further build the brands of famous chefs and outlets. Maybe we're just cynical. Tweet at them and see how far you get!
