Park Slope's homey gay bar Excelsior will shutter at the end of this month because the building that housed it has been sold. The bar's lease ends in August and the new owners have reportedly denied a renewal for the 15-year-old neighborhood establishment, reports the Daily News. Owners Mark Nayden and Richard Kennedy are hoping to find a new home for the bar somewhere in Park Slope.

The bar is well known in the community for being a laid back, friendly spot to have a few drinks and hang in the backyard. "I'm upset," regular Morris Roy told the News. "It's kind of like a gay 'Cheers' in here. Everyone is so friendly." Before the bar closes, the owners plan to hold their wedding reception in the space. BYO Tissues.
