Times Square has never been known as a dining destination, but it looks like the area is finally getting some new lunch options. After calling for proposals from food vendors interested in serving up their wares from kiosks in Times Square's pedestrian zone, the Times Square Alliance has announced the first new vendors. And the winners are...

Salume, who will serve Italian panini, Snack Box, an espresso bar with gourmet hot dogs and milkshakes, Nuchas, which specializes in Argentinian empanadas, and Rickshaw Dumplings. The first stand, Salume, is expect to open in mid-September, and the others shortly thereafter. It's pretty much the perfect set up for the ultimate tourist trap picnic: paninis in the Square's new meeting bowls! [via Midtown Lunch]
