On Fridays and Saturday evenings for the summer—and foreseeable future, so it seems—Venturo Osteria & Wine Bar in Sunnyside, Queens, will host a pop-up cocktail bar mixing up scratch made speciality drinks of the boozy variety. Astoria-based Behind The Wood are spearheading the bar, which features custom themed cocktails on weekend nights from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
They're splitting the menu down the middle between basic cocktails and their own signature drinks. For the former, they'll offer Bucks (with ginger beer and lime), Daisys (with grenadine, orange and lemon) and Rickeys (with lime, simple syrup and soda water), plus a Daily Punch that'll change throughout the encampment. For the latter, fresh, summery ingredients like fire roasted jalapenos, cucumbers and agave are mixed with tequila (Summer Lovin') or lavender-lemon shrub, hibiscus cordial and lemon juice are mixed with gin (Flower Power).
The basic cocktails'll set you back just $10 with the signature "Summer Solstice" options going for just $12. The team is already planning an autumn-themed cocktail selection when the season turns, plus another for super cold weather around the holidays.
