When we last checked in on the forthcoming Upper East Side location of the 2nd Avenue Deli, problems with the Department of Building were holding up the matzoh mecca from opening its doors. But that was then. Just now the home of the Instant Heart Attack has sent us a release announcing an opening date for its second outpost (the East Village original closed in 2006 and is now a Chase). Kugel, anyone?
The second 2nd Avenue Deli will be opening at 1442 First Avenue at 75th Street on Tuesday, August 16th.
So what to expect? Not the unexpected. “We are going to continue in the family tradition of providing great kosher food in an exciting, friendly atmosphere,” owner Jeremy Lebewohl said in a statement. Which is to say, the new, 70-seat, restaurant will boast the same menu as the 33rd Street location, available for eating in, taking out and catering. “Whether we’re at 33rd and Third or 75th and First, it’s always 2nd Ave,” said Lebewohl.
