We haven't tried the food yet, but The Standard Grill—the new restaurant that officially opened last week on the ground floor of The Standard Hotel—seems to have a lot going for it. Besides being really ridiculously good looking, the joint's timing and location are prime indeed, coinciding with the first section of the High Line park to open to the public. The restaurant, designed by Roman and Williams, is comprised of three distinct spaces: an outdoor dining section, a sun-soaked bistro with tiled floor and a full bar, and a white-tablecloth, fine dining room with red banquettes and orange leather armchairs.

Chef Dan Silverman's menu is described as "a blend of traditional meat market chop houses with New American Grill sensibilities." That means locally-sourced, seasonally driven ingredients fueling classics like roast chicken, grilled salmon steak, rigatoncini pasta, and steak frites. Right now they're only serving dinner, but breakfast and lunch are expected within the next couple weeks. And the next piece of The Standard puzzle to fall into place looks to be the most spectacular: In September, the hotel's 18th floor will open with a cocktail lounge and restaurant on one side and an indoor swimming pool and bar on the other.
