Last week, Red Sox fans in NYC—the few, the proud, the much-maligned— lost a dear ally, when Murray Hill spot the Hairy Monk closed for good. The bar was a prime zone to see Boston sports before it poured its last pint of Sam Adams on Wednesday, and though the owners claim the Hairy Monk spirit will continue to haunt its Upper East Side sister bar Honky Tonk Tavern, the televisions that once aired Bruins, Celtics and Patriots games are now forever dark. But have no fear, Beantown diehards: here are a few bars left for you to watch your teams get crushed:

Professor Thom's

We spent a few bingo nights at this East Village spot before realizing (in horror) that it was a Boston bar, but the Red Sox decor lining the walls say it all. Professor Thom's airs Boston games on their projector and big screen TVs, plus you can catch your team play on smaller flat screens that hang in the bar's booths. They also have a Lobster Monday special ($14 for a 1 1/4lb steamed Maine Lobster, corn on the cob and Old Bay fries) if you get a hankering for a taste of New England.

Riviera Cafe

This West Village bar was once the NYC sanctuary for Red Sox fans, and it's still a home away from home for anyone who remembers celebrating Nomar Garciaparra's reign. You can reserve an advanced spot for a Sunday game and get $7 drafts (and $20 pitchers) of Sam Adams and Stella Artois, plus there are $4 margaritas to help stir up a little of this on the subway ride home.

Standings

Standings isn't strictly a Boston bar, so fans of all sports teams, winners or losers, are welcome to watch a game. But this East Village spot is still decidedly Sox-friendly, and they air all Boston games available for patrons. Plus they've got some New England beers on their rotating beer list (this week, Narragansett and Wandering Star are on tap), free pizza at 8 p.m. every Friday and a free bagel bar on Sunday afternoons through January.
