At last, the Greenpoint waterfront has been blessed with a floating food station. The long-awaited Brooklyn Barge Bar will start serving up burgers and brews at Milton Street by the East River this afternoon, just in time for outdoor drinking season's dying breath.

We got a sneak peak at the bar back in June, and now the barge is ready for boarding—they'll open at 4 p.m. today and 1 p.m. tomorrow, before closing Monday and reopening from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Tuesday. The bar says they'll maintain that daily schedule until October 31st, weather-permitting.

Though the bar will serve booze and bites (menu here), they say they're more than just a riverside spot for imbibing. They've teamed up with environmental and ecodiversity groups like the Billion Oyster Project to help clean up the East River, and plan to offer fishing, kayaking and sailing lessons at some point in the future.
