It's terribly cold outside all of a sudden—how did this happen? What was summer? Is the sun dead? Why is my skin a dry, lifeless, scaly thing? How do we stop time and make it warm forever? There are no real answers to these questions, unless you believe that "science" thing, but until this brutal cold (WHICH IS JUST GETTING STARTED) ends, we'll eat ourselves a jacket and look at pictures of these sad kitties contemplating climate change. Here's where to indulge this week:
On Monday, head to Murray's Cheese Bar in Greenwich Village for their first "Meet the Maker" dinner, presented by Jasper Hill Farm cheesemaker Mateo Kehler. The evening includes a five-course dinner paired with brews from Vermont, and though the menu hasn't been released, we're told to expect lots of cheese (duh), pork and seasonal ingredients. Seatings are from 6 to 8 p.m. and 9 to 11 p.m., and tickets are $90 each; you can purchase your ticket online.
Also on MondayThe Tangled Vine on the Upper West Side is hosting a Spanish Wine Dinner. The feast includes a four-course meal paired with offerings from González Byass, a famed sherry bodega in Cadiz, Spain. Dishes include paella cordero, with grilled baby lamb chop and romesco, and pisto con pescado with pan fried skate, manchego and lemon. The dinner kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and costs $85-per-person; you can reserve a spot by calling or emailing the restaurant.
Make your way to Ted & Honey in Cobble Hill on Tuesday for their first FoodLab dinner series, which aims to showcase farms and chefs that focus on locally grown, organic and sustainable foods. This week's dishes are prepared by phFood's Paul Heiler, and include Sous vide Veal Tenderloin, a Kujawski Farm Potato and Leffe Belgian Ale Soup, and pumpkin pie in a jar, along with wine pairings. There are seatings at 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m., and tickets are $65-a-head; purchase yours online.
And on Thursday, Humboldt and Jackson in East Williamsburg is hosting the fifth installment of Brooklyn Brewery's popular dinner party series, teaming up this time with—surprise!—Jasper Hill cheeses! If you missed out on the Murray's dinner, or just can't get enough cheese, this multi-course meal includes dishes like Maplebrook Farms burrata with bruleed persimmons, pomegranate and purslane; seared lamb loin with ricotta gnocchi, whey-brown butter reduction, pistachio gremolata and cranberry gastrique; and braised pork and winter squash stew, crispy pork and Alpha Tolman fonduta—you can also munch on a Jasper Hill cheese board beforehand. The dinner runs from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and tickets are $85 each; purchase them online.
