The Hester Street Fair closes out another successful season on Essex and Hester with the the Best Of Downtown & Brooklyn Bazaar in conjunction with Bedford + Bowery. On Saturday, a tightly curated list of food vendors includes super newcomers (Arrogant Swine, Pasar Malam, Seoul Chicken) with a few more who've been around the block, like Empire Biscuit, Papaya King and Torst. Also on hand, Billy Leroy, who ran his famous oddities tent on Houston, plus an open bar by Brooklyn Brewery and tunes courtesy of a few LCD Soundsystem vets.
In East Harlem there's a weekend full of excitement at La Marqueta, the local market that opens weekly underneath the Metro North tracks at 116th Street. On Saturday, the 3rd Annual East Harlem Harvest Festival comes to the space, with some regular farmers selling produce and artisan goods, plus a beer garden and more PG fun for kids and families. Harlem Seoul will be roasting up a whole pig plus some live music and other entertainment to pass the day away. Head up between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. for the festivities, but don't hold out too long on that pig.
Also at La Marqueta, Sunday marks the first in a new series put on by the Vendy Awards and Office of the Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito to bring together Vendy winners and participants with other local eateries to fill the space with more food. Starting this week and continuing through November 23rd, head to the Vendy Plaza for Khao Man Ghai, Nuchas, Showday, Martha's Gorditas and tons more vendors, who'll pop in and out depending on the weekend. There's also a cash bar featuring Brooklyn Brewery suds plus live latin fusion jazz from TROMBEATZ. Entry is totally free with the plaza running from noon until 6 p.m.
