It's a dangerous time to be a dive bar in SoHo; the neighborhood mourned the loss of Milady's at the start of this year and Broome Street Bar seems poised to follow. The latest victim of the dive bar extermination is Hudson Street's Cody's Bar & Grill, which Tribeca Citizen reports has officially closed. It's time to build a fortress around Ear Inn!

It may not have had the name recognition as its compatriots, but the little bar and restaurant was a relaxed place to grab a drink and dinner before a City Winery show in an area increasingly known for its trendy eateries and fashion cookies. The site also has a very New York history, serving as the space where SNL superstars Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi ran their unlicensed blues bar that may have served as inspiration for Aykroyd's House of Blues chain. The Grateful Dead also apparently played there in its most recent form.

Pour one or puff one for another slice of history one step away from a juice bar.
