With downtown newcomers Heartbreak and Edi and the Wolf making Austrian fare hip for sitting-down foodies again, it isn't really a surprise that, after nearly two years on the road, the guys behind the Schnitzel & Things truck are getting into the brick and mortar schnitzel business, too. According to the truck's Twitter the first Schnitzel & Things restaurant will soft-open on Third Avenue between 45th and 46th Streets this weekend.

If the tiny (12 seats) storefront is a success the team hopes to open two more in short measure. "This was in the works ever since we opened the truck and started our brand," owner Gene Voss told DNAinfo. "We wanted to see whether the concept would work, and it did."

The two-time Vendy finalists better be careful though. While an actual storefront means they'll have less police problems to worry about, coming off the road is not always a smooth transition. Just last week, after a hasty storefront build-out, the Cupcake Stop truck abruptly stopped all operations.
