Let us take this opportunity to warn you about Tanimura & Antle brand Field Fresh Wrapped Single Head Romaine lettuce. The product has been recalled because it may be contaminated with E. Coli, a bacteria that the FDA warns "can cause a diarrheal illness, often with bloody stools. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. The condition can lead to serious kidney damage and even death."

The California-based company is voluntarily participating in the recall, and officials suspect that some 2,095 cases were potentially affected. Most of those were shipped to Puerto Rico and 19 states in the U.S., including New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Texas, and California. The recall went into effect yesterday after the testing of a single random sample by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, but no illnesses have been reported so far.
