They say summer's "over," but that doesn't mean you have to bid farewell to beach season altogether. In fact, the folks behind the Riis Park Beach Bazaar at Jacob Riis Park have a plan to extend Rockaway summer—they're opening an off-season beachside restaurant so you can pretend its surf weather well past the first snowfall. (Or maybe it's always surf weather.)

The new venture, dubbed The Dropout, debuts Friday September 29th at Jacob Riis Park's Bay 9. Its food program is helmed by Chef Julia Steinberg—a Rockaway native who's run kitchens at Whit's End, Red Hook Lobster Pound, and Rockaway Clam Bar, to name a few—and diners can expect to see rotating seasonal farm-to-table dishes on the menu, like fresh carpaccio tartare, fried spicy chicken sandwiches, and whole fried porgy, to name a few.

The oceanfront dining room's overhead doors will close when the weather cools down, and the whole space is heated, as is befitting Dark Winter. Only 242 days until beach season!
