Martha's Country Bakery, a specialty dessert shop with three Queens locations, will be opening up their first Brooklyn outpost in a forthcoming development in Williamsburg. The bakery has inked a deal to be the ground floor tenant at 263 Bedford Avenue, a new six-story mixed use development slated to open in early 2016 next to the neighborhood's Metropolitan Pool and Recreation Center at Metropolitan Avenue. This shop will join the others in Astoria, Forest Hills and Bayside.

Martha's began as a German bakery in Manhattan in 1969 and is known for their beautiful cakes and superlative cheesecake. Other locations include both retail and cafe components, meaning espresso drinks and ice creams to go along with the baked goods. The bakery will have plenty of competition in the area, which boasts both old school Italian and Polish bakeries to newfangled operations of all varieties.

The press release from RKF, the real estate firm responsible for Martha's new encampment, also included this sigh-inducing gem:

Williamsburg’s rapidly changing demographics have helped transform it into one of the city’s most desirable retail and residential markets. Bustling with young, affluent professionals, Bedford Avenue has become a thriving retail corridor, due in no small part to an annual ridership of 10 million at the North 7th subway stop and an increased presence of national retailers, like Starbucks, J.Crew and Diesel.

There you have it. Thanks to J. Crew for making it all happen.
